Romy Owens - Artist in Residence
Skirvin Hilton Artist in Residence
The Skirvin Hilton in partnership with the Paseo Arts Association has chosen Oklahoma City artist Romy Owens as its first Artist in Residence.
Combining her passions for photography and needlework, Owen's unique artwork consists of abstract mosaics created by taking photographs and sewing them together by hand.
As the Skirvin Hilton's Artist in Residence, Owen's live studio space is open to hotel guests and visitors. The Artist-in-Residence program encourages the public to interact with the artist and witness the evolution of each piece first-hand, while supporting the artist's work and talent.
We were impressed with Romy's creative skills, engaging personality, and unique point of view," said Martin van der Laan, general manager of the Skirvin Hilton. "We are very eager to introduce Owens and her work to our guests and residents of the city."
Owens graduated from Oklahoma City University in 2005 with a M.A. in photography. She is a visual artist who focuses on sketching, photography and sewing. She has curated a dozen exhibitions in Oklahoma City, received numerous awards and honors and has collaborated with many artistic colleagues.
