Mike Wimmer

Mike's earliest memories of art were related to literature. His mother was a teacher and taught him to read at a very early age. The marriage of image and words seems so natural, so linked. As a professional artist and illustrator he penned a quote that perfectly describes this sentiment; “Words are the wings of our imagination, but pictures are the final destination.” For Mike, the message of a painting, and now sculpture, and what it conveys to the viewer is preeminent. If it doesn’t communicate the idea of the painter or creator it is a failure, no matter how beautifully painted or how great the technique used in its creation is.

Gayle Curry

Gayle Curry

Curry has found a way to express a vision without being literal; by exploring form, shape and color and work them on a surface until she evoke emotion.

She works with encaustics (wax) to explore the extraordinary effects of depth and luminosity that can be achieved.

We were thrilled that she had decided to practice her art of encaustics in the Skirvin Hilton’s studio space.

Kerri Shadid

Kerri is a fulltime poet and visual artist as she writes spontaneous poems for visitors at events and festivals. Kerri also practices process oriented art forms such as marbling, handmade books and book binding. As one of our featured Oklahoma City artists, Kerri hopes to expand the complexity of her hand made books. This includes Japanese Stab and multi-folio binding, each of which are visually engaging and rarely practiced.
Kerri received BAs in Letters and Political Science from the University of Oklahoma, studied international relations as a Fulbright Grant Student at McGill University in Montreal and received her MA in the Humanities and Social Thought from New York University.

Romy Owens

Combining her passions for photography and needlework, Owen's unique artwork consists of abstract mosaics created by taking photographs and sewing them together by hand.

We were impressed with Romy's creative skills, engaging personality, and unique point of view," said Martin van der Laan, general manager of the Skirvin Hilton. "We are very eager to introduce Owens and her work to our guests and residents of the city."

Owens graduated from Oklahoma City University in 2005 with a M.A. in photography. She is a visual artist who focuses on sketching, photography and sewing. She was highly influenced by her mother’s hobby of photography and received her first camera at the age of six and worked in a dark room for the first time at the age of 10. Over the last seven years, Owens has been featured in five solo exhibitions, three duo exhibitions and over 60 group exhibitions. She has curated a dozen exhibitions in Oklahoma City, received numerous awards and honors and has collaborated with many artistic colleagues. Owen’s art is included in several private, corporate and public collections.
